Frequently asked questions

What does the Section 8 rent calculator show?

It shows HUD's Fair Market Rent for 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4-bedroom units in each county, plus the 90%-110% band that local housing authorities use to set voucher payment standards.

What is the payment standard vs the Fair Market Rent?

HUD publishes a Fair Market Rent (FMR) for each county. The local public housing authority sets its payment standard between 90% and 110% of that FMR, so the voucher amount for a unit can run up to 10% above or below the published figure.
